About the show: All Agnes Evans has left of her teenage sister is her Dungeons & Dragons notebook, a place where Tilly created imaginary worlds to find her only refuge. But when the book launches Agnes into an action-packed journey of discovery and adventure, she must activate her inner geek to defeat the homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and 90s pop culture within!
This is CP's Young Adult Theatre which means actors must be between the ages of 14 - 25 years old as of the last day of auditions (June 9, 2026).
All actors should be comfortable handling
prop weapons and will engage in staged violence.
Agnes Evans: An “Average American High School Cheerleader.” Agnes, is a High School senior who has recently lost her younger sister in an accident. She has complicated feelings about her sister (Tilly) and the accident. She has no knowledge of the D&D culture that her sister was immersed in. She discovers Tilly’s D&D book and wants to play it as a way to connect with her after her death.
Tilly Evans / Tillius the Paladin:
The show starts with the tragic accident that takes Tilly’s life. The show revolves around a D&D Module that Tilly created that is part diary and part a way of connecting with her older sister who doesn’t understand her. In the world of D&D, she’s a level 20 Paladin, Healer of wounds and protector of lights; aka not to be messed with. She’s spunky, powerful, agile and brings a young energy and fresh spirit. In life, Tilly would be a nerdy, freshman who is obsessed with Dungeons and Dragons. Her fame lives on among the “geek crowd” at her school. It appears that she was beginning to explore her LGBTQ+ identity at the time of the accident. (NOTE: This role may require on-stage intimacy – the extent of which will be determined by the actor and director and fully staged with consent based practices.)
Chuck: A dorky freshmen, outspoken but self-aware nerd and a D&D enthusiast. He also goes by the name “DM Biggs” (both ironically and unironically). He is employed at the local game store and is a Dungeon Master who knew Tilly during her life. He acts as the Dungeon Master for the game Agnes plays.
Lilith Morningstar / Lily: Her D&D Character class: Demon Queen. Lilith acts as her party’s muscle. Has probably been alive for eternity. Very hot and girlfriend to Tillius the Paladin. Also very sarcastic, serious and self-aware, but with a vulnerable side. In the real world, Lily is a freshman who was friends with Tilly and has complicated feelings about her death. (NOTE: This role may require on-stage intimacy – the extent of which will be determined by the actor and director and fully staged with consent based practices.)
Kaliope Darkwalker / Kelly: Her D&D Character is a Dark Elf. Kaliope acts as the party’s master tracker, lock picker, magic-user, and all-around elven ass-kicker. She’s very analytical and gives off earthy vibes. In real life, Kelly is a freshman who has cerebral palsy and uses forearm crutches to help her. Tilly was the one who convinced her to play D&D. Ronnie is her older brother.
Orcus / Ronnie: His D&D character is a red demon. Former Overlord of the Underworld and current couch potato. If there’s a lost soul, he’ll either have it or at least know where it is. He’s the comedic relief of the party. In the real world, Ronnie is a sophomore or junior who is a little socially awkward. Kelly is his younger sister.
Vera / The Beholder: Vera is a Senior. She is Agnes’s best friend and fellow cheerleader, but would rather be with the punk-rockers. She clearly is only a cheerleader because Agnes is one. Vera is fiercely protective of Agnes and trying to be a good friend as Agnes goes through a difficult time. In the D&D game, she becomes a giant eyeball monster.
Miles: Agnes’ “Average American High School” boyfriend, a senior football player, and very sweet. He tries very hard to be a good boyfriend while Agnes goes through her grief process. He genuinely has feelings for Agnes and is a caring guy. Tilly has written him into the game as a bad guy that Agnes has to fight. Eventually, the “real-world” Miles tries to join in the D&D game to play alongside and support Agnes.
Steve: Character Class: Mage. Adventurer supreme. We mostly see him in the D&D world rushing into potentially dangerous situations (with varying degrees of failure). In the real world he is a freshman or sophomore and very dorky.
Narrator: The mysterious storyteller who guides us through the story like Cate Blanchett in
The Lord of the Rings. This character may double with Farrah the Faerie.
Farrah the Faerie: A little forest faerie. She looks adorable, but she’s actually an angry savage in a small package. Think Tinkerbell but extremely violent. Some kind of character voice is encouraged. This character may double with Narrator.
Evil Gabbi / Gabbi:
Evil Gabbi is a succubi cheerleader. Tilly’s vision of pure evil; the epitome of fake-nice preppy girl. Evil Gabbi torments Tillius in the D&D game. Gabbi is a freshman cheerleader that tormented Tilly in the real world.
Evil Tina / Tina: Evil Tina is a succubi cheerleader. Tilly’s vision of pure evil; the epitome of fakenice preppy girl. Evil Tina torments Tillius in the D&D game. Tina is a freshman cheerleader that tormented Tilly in the real world.
Monster Crew: There are a variety of D&D monsters that appear within the game. Will require a lot of physicality, fight choreography, and possible use of puppets and other props.
