Casting: 6 men, 2 women. Genders are as defined by the playwrights. Community Players takes an inclusive stance towards casting.

About   the   show: Two suddenly single pals, one a sloppy sportswriter and the other a neurotic neat freak, strain their friendship when they turn into roommates. In Neil Simon’s comedy classic, the original “Odd Couple” of Felix and Oscar navigate life, love, and tidiness in this humorous exploration of personal boundaries and the human condition.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS

Ages listed below are as defined by the playwrights and may not be entirely reflected in casting.


Oscar Madison (30s-50s) A carefree, good-natured, divorced sportswriter who lives alone in a messy eight-room New York apartment. 


Felix Unger (30s-50s) A fussy man who knows that he is difficult to live with, but cannot or will not make any concessions or compromises. 


Gwendolyn Pigeon (20s-40s) Oscar and Felix’s giggly upstairs neighbor; one of a pair of English sisters. She is a widow. 


Cecily Pigeon (20s-40s) Oscar and Felix’s giggly upstairs neighbor; one of a pair of English sisters. She is a divorcée.


Speed (30s-60s) One of Oscar and Felix’s poker buddies. Gruff and sarcastic, often picking on Vinnie and Murray.


Murray (30s-60s) A NYPD policeman, one of Oscar and Felix’s poker buddies. 


Roy (30s-60s) One of Oscar and Felix’s poker buddies. Oscar’s accountant. Roy has a dry wit but is less acerbic than Speed. 


Vinnie (30s-60s) One of Oscar and Felix’s poker buddies. Vinnie is mild-mannered and hen-pecked, making him an easy target for Speed’s verbal barbs.
