Auditions: Aug. 25 & 26 beginning at 7pm with callbacks on Aug. 27 (if needed)


Casting: 7 men, 3 women, 6–20 ensemble members. Due to the content of this show, actors must be 16+ years old. Genders are as defined by the playwrights. Community Players takes an inclusive stance towards casting.


Production dates: Oct. 24 – 26 & 31 – Nov. 2, 2025

 

What to do: Those auditioning will be asked to read a cutting from the script and prepare a 16– to 24–bar cut of a musical theatre selection of your choosing. Please bring sheet music as an accompanist will be provided.

About   the   show: On the hunt for a corrupt judge who stole his wife, wrongfully banished barber Sweeney Todd will stop at nothing for vengeance, so he forms an unlikely partnership with Mrs. Lovett, who serves up the worst pies in 19th century London underneath his former shop. Together, they wreak havoc on Fleet Street and serve up the hottest—and most unsettling—pies in London.

The ages listed below are as defined by the playwrights and may not be entirely reflected in casting.


Sweeney Todd (Baritone/Bass, Age 40-55) A wrongfully imprisoned barber seeking to right the wrongs committed against him. He is Johanna's father, singularly focused on taking bloody revenge. Our story's tormented protagonist. Looking for: Strong voice, Murderous intensity, British accent a must.


Mrs. Lovett (Mezzo-Soprano, Age 35-50) An entrepreneurial and amoral meat pie shop owner. She falls in love with Todd and turns his desire for revenge into a profitable business venture. Looking for: Strong voice, strong physicality, British accent a must, Cockney a plus!


Anthony Hope (Tenor, Age 20-30) A naive and youthful sailor returning to London. He helps Todd return to London and unexpectedly falls in love with Johanna. Looking for: Strong voice, British accent a must.


Johanna (Soprano, Age 18 - 21) A spritely girl, full of innocence, constantly yearning for freedom. Todd's long-lost daughter and Turpin's ward. Looking for: Strong lyrical soprano, British accent a must.


Tobias Ragg (Tenor, Age 12-18) A poor youngster apprenticed to Pirelli. He finds a surrogate family in Todd and Lovett. Looking for: Willingness to explore, strong physicality, British accent a must.


Judge Turpin (Bass/Baritone, Age 50-65) A lecherous public official who portrays himself as a sanctimonious authoritarian. He takes advantage of his position in the city and is responsible for imprisoning Todd. Looking for: Strong voice, strong stage presence, British accent a must.


Beadle Bamford (Tenor, Age 40-55) A pompous public official. He is deeply loyal to the corrupt Turpin. Looking for: Strong stage presence, British accent a must.


Beggar Woman (Mezzo-Soprano, Age 35-50) A deranged and schizophrenic woman who harbors a dark, surprising secret. Looking for: Strong physicality, willingness to explore, British accent a must.


Adolfo Pirelli (Tenor, Age 30 - 45) A flamboyant Italian rival barber; a charlatan with a secret past. Looking for: Strong stage presence, Italian accent.


Jonas Fogg (Spoken, 35-60) The owner of Fogg's Asylum. He sells the hair of madmen to wigmakers, will likely double in the ensemble. Looking for: British accent a must.
