Sensory-Friendly Performances

Sensory-Friendly Peformance FAQ

  • What is a sensory-friendly performance?

A sensory-friendly performance is designed to create a safe and welcoming theatre experience for patrons who may be on the autism spectrum or have challenges with sensory processing and stimulation.

  • What kind of changes will be made to the show?
    • Lower sound level, especially for startling or jarring sounds
    • A reduction of strobe lights
    • The house lights in the theatre will remain at a low level during the performance
    • Patrons are free to talk or leave as needed during the performance
  • Does every production have a sensory-friendly performance?

At this time, sensory-friendly performances are only available for select productions.  If you're not sure whether an upcoming production has a sensory-friendly performance, just check the show's page on our website -- it will be listed there!

  • Who should attend this performance?

A sensory-friendly performance is specially designed for children and adults with sensory/stimulation sensitivities, autism or other developmental or cognitive disabilities, as well as their families and caretakers.   We promise a judgement-free and fun experience for the entire family!  All children must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Can people without sensory sensitivities attend this performance?

Yes, all individuals are welcome!  As noted above, this performance will have specific alterations with individuals who have sensory or stimulation sensitivities in mind to create a comfortable, safe, and welcoming environment. These changes do not necessarily adhere to traditional theatre etiquette, so as long as ticket buyers are aware of this fact, all are encouraged to attend!

  • Can I bring fidget toys or headphones into the theatre?

Of course! We want you and your family to be comfortable.  Feel free to bring your fidgets, seat cushions, blankets, and headphones into the theatre.

  • Can I leave the theatre during the performance and be re-seated?

Yes, upon leaving the theatre, an usher will direct you to the lobby or restroom. With the help of an usher, you can be re-seated throughout the performance.

  • Does the theatre have food and drinks?

Yes!  Our concession stand sells cookies, candy, popcorn, and Coke products (including Minute Maid lemonade and Dasani water).  Concessions are available for purchase before the performance and during intermission.  No outside food or drink is allowed inside the theatre.

  • Is the show appropriate for my child?

At the end of the day, this is up to your discretion!
All of our productions have a rating of 1-4 to help parents decide what is an appropriate show for their child.  Learn more about our production ratings
